Square Root

QuestionSquare Root
Jane asked 4 years ago

This is a math problem. I am taking a test that asks what the square root of 25/49 is, as compared to 5/7 (equal to each other, one bigger than the other, cannot determine from information given). The answer is they are equal, I said the that you cannot determine because the square root could also be -5/7.
Other sections of the test treat situations with x^2 showing there are two solutions for x (for negative & positive sides) — which aligns with my thinking.
Is it just a language nuance in how question is posed?
Thanks Lenya!
